Instrument Technician - Fawley, Southampton

What You Will Do
- Carry out instrument planned, preventive and breakdown maintenance.
- Carry out calibration of instruments to schedule and maintain calibration records and test equipment.
- Fault-find on 4–20 mA/HART loops, pneumatic systems and control system I/O.
- Carry out proof testing of safety instrumented functions and alarm testing to schedule.
- Carry out inspection and maintenance of hazardous area (Ex) equipment in line with DSEAR and site requirements.
- Carry out project installation (CAPEX) and commissioning, including loop checks, review and mark up of drawings.
- Complete production-critical repairs and all critical inspections in a safe and timely manner to maximise availability of plant and avoid overdue inspection activities.
- Assist and coordinate contractors and service personnel in maintaining instrument, electrical and other plant equipment.
- Record all work accurately in the CMMS, including feedback to improve maintenance routines and asset data.
- Identify critical spares and raise requisitions for parts, tools and test equipment.
- Execute work in a safe manner in accordance with safe working practices, site standards, and site safety systems such as Permit to Work, Task Risk Assessments and Maintenance Procedures.
- Liaise with instrument, electrical and other specialist engineers.
- Take part in root cause investigations, reliability improvements, department audits and site safety initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications
- Recognised apprenticeship or company traineeship scheme.
- Appropriate technical qualification in instrumentation, electrical or a related discipline, e.g. NVQ Level 3, City and Guilds, ONC, HNC.
- Experience maintaining instrumentation, electrical or control systems in an industrial environment.
- Training and approval to work on hazardous area equipment, e.g. CompEx Ex01–Ex04, or willingness to obtain.
Physical Demands
This role requires working in a chemical manufacturing plant.
Preferred Qualifications
- 5 years’ experience in refinery, chemical or allied industry working on instrumented systems.
- Experience of calibration, loop checking and PLC/DCS fault-finding.
- Awareness of functional safety (IEC 61511) and proof testing.
- 18th Edition BS 7671.
