Instrumentation & Controls Engineer

Location: Yeadon, Leeds
Salary: Up to £40,000
Shift: Monday - Friday, Days
Hours: 38 hours per week
Sector: Manufacturing

Job Role of the Instrumentation & Controls Engineer

A fantastic opportunity has become available for an experienced Instrumentation & Controls Engineer to join a well-established manufacturing facility in Yeadon, Leeds. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer looking to develop their career within a busy manufacturing environment, working on a range of instrumentation, control systems, and measurement equipment.

You will be responsible for the maintenance, calibration, fault-finding, and optimization of instrumentation and control systems, helping to ensure the reliability, accuracy, and efficiency of the manufacturing process. The role will involve a mixture of planned maintenance, calibration, reactive fault-finding, and continuous improvement, with the opportunity to contribute to wider Lean Manufacturing, TPM, and operational excellence initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out calibration, maintenance, inspection, and repair of instrumentation and control systems.
  • Complete planned preventative maintenance and scheduled calibration activities.
  • Carry out reactive maintenance and fault-finding to minimize production downtime.
  • Investigate recurring instrumentation and equipment failures and implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain accurate calibration records, certificates, and documentation.
  • Assist with control system software modifications, configuration changes, and commissioning.
  • Interpret electrical schematics, technical drawings, and instrumentation documentation.
  • Maintain instrumentation manuals, drawings, configuration files, program backups, and certification.
  • Identify opportunities to improve instrumentation reliability and process performance.
  • Support Lean Manufacturing, TPM, 6S, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure all maintenance and calibration activities are completed safely and in accordance with site procedures.

Non-Negotiable Requirements

  • Experience working within Instrumentation, Controls, Electrical, or Automation Engineering.
  • Experience carrying out calibration and maintenance of instrumentation and measurement systems.
  • Strong electrical and instrumentation fault-finding experience.
  • Experience working within a manufacturing environment.
  • Recognised engineering apprenticeship or technical qualification.
  • Equivalent qualification in Instrumentation, Controls, Electrical, Automation Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical drawings.

  • Previous experience within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Experience working with PLCs, control systems, or process instrumentation.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, TPM, or 6S.
  • Experience supporting internal or external audits.
  • Experience with calibration management systems.
  • Strong understanding of continuous improvement and equipment reliability.
