Instrumentation Planning Engineer (Maternity Cover)

We are currently recruiting for an Instrumentation Planning Engineer to join a leading automotive engineering team in Coventry on a maternity cover contract. This is an excellent opportunity for a planning professional with instrumentation experience to play a key role in supporting vehicle and HV battery development programmes.
The Role
As an Instrumentation Planning Engineer, you will be responsible for establishing baseline criteria to plan and schedule workloads across multiple engineering projects. You will carry out detailed pre-planning activities, assessing scope, resources, engineering materials, quantities and financial impacts to ensure successful project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage projects and processes independently with minimal supervision.
- Develop and maintain build plans, ensuring alignment with programme milestones and deadlines.
- Produce weekly reports to visualise demand, capacity and build progress for leadership teams and stakeholders.
- Review new build requests and ensure accurate scheduling within published work plans.
- Track build status and task progression using JIRA and local planning tools, escalating risks and issues where required.
- Identify instrumentation, material and long lead-time requirements for each build.
- Obtain and evaluate supplier quotations, support purchasing activities and monitor deliveries.
- Lead weekly cross-functional meetings involving Engineering, Operations, Procurement and Programme teams.
- Gather and document requirements through stakeholder engagement.
- Work closely with internal customers to understand build requirements and convert them into formal requests through internal systems.
- Collaborate with vehicle and engine build planners to support programme delivery.
- Maintain and update the Instrumentation Resource Chart on a weekly basis.
- Support the Lead Planner when required.

- Knowledge of vehicle systems, HV battery systems, instrumentation and associated components.
- Experience within engineering planning, project planning or build planning environments.
- Strong IT skills, including advanced use of Excel and PowerPoint.
- Experience using JIRA or similar workflow and planning systems.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to confidently explain complex information.
- Strong organisational and stakeholder management skills.
- High attention to detail and the ability to accurately document critical information.
- Adaptable, proactive and accountable with a willingness to learn.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Qualifications
- Degree educated or equivalent experience in a similar engineering planning role.
