Cryogenic Sales Engineer
United Kingdom - Covering Northern Europe
We are seeking an experienced Cryogenic Sales Engineer to drive sales growth across the UK market for a portfolio of advanced cryogenic and scientific instrumentation.
This is a technically focused, customer-facing sales position combining business development, account management and applications expertise. You will work closely with customers across scientific research, academia, quantum technology and other advanced technology markets to understand their applications and recommend appropriate technical solutions.
Working closely with Sales, Engineering and Product teams, you will be responsible for developing new business, expanding existing accounts and building long-term relationships throughout your territory.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop new business opportunities through a combination of face-to-face and remote customer engagement.
- Manage and grow existing customer relationships, identifying opportunities for repeat business, cross-selling and upselling.
- Understand customers' scientific and technical requirements and recommend appropriate products, services and solutions.
- Deliver technical sales presentations, product demonstrations and application discussions.
- Manage opportunities throughout the complete sales cycle, from initial customer engagement through technical evaluation, quotation, negotiation and order.
- Develop medium- and long-term territory and account plans to grow revenue and diversify the customer base.
- Build strong relationships with researchers, engineers, scientists and other technical decision-makers.
- Work closely with Engineering and Product teams to ensure proposed solutions meet customer and application requirements.
- Gather and analyse customer feedback, competitor activity and wider industry trends.
- Maintain an accurate sales pipeline and provide regular forecasts and updates.
- Represent the business professionally at customer meetings, conferences, exhibitions and other industry events.

Candidate Profile
We are interested in candidates who combine a strong scientific or engineering background with proven technical sales experience. Candidates do not necessarily need to meet every requirement if they can demonstrate relevant transferable experience.
Experience & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific or technical discipline such as Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, Engineering, or equivalent industry experience.
- Approximately 5–8 years of customer-facing experience, including at least 3 years within technical sales or business development.
- Previous experience selling complex technical, scientific or engineering products.
- Comfortable managing relatively long and technically involved sales cycles.
- Demonstrable track record of achieving sales targets and developing revenue within an assigned territory.
- Experience selling into scientific research, academia, laboratories, quantum technology, photonics, semiconductor, materials science or related markets would be advantageous.
- Previous exposure to cryogenics, low-temperature systems, scientific instrumentation or laboratory equipment would be particularly valuable.

- Strong technical aptitude with the ability to understand complex scientific applications and translate customer requirements into appropriate solutions.
- Excellent presentation, written and verbal communication skills.
- Confident communicating with scientists, researchers, engineers and senior commercial stakeholders.
- Strong commercial awareness and negotiation skills.
- Ability to collect and analyse customer feedback, competitor intelligence and market trends.
- Self-motivated, commercially driven and comfortable working independently across a defined territory.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise effectively in a demanding environment.
- High attention to detail and a structured approach to opportunity management.
- Comfortable collaborating with multidisciplinary Sales, Engineering, Product and Service teams.
- Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Experience with Salesforce or a comparable CRM platform.
