Instrumentation Technician – Shoeburyness Site

About the Role

Join our Land Installation team as an Instrumentation Technician at our Shoeburyness site, where you’ll work with cutting-edge technology alongside some of the brightest minds in the field.

As part of the Site team, you’ll support trails and ensure safety within the environment. Your responsibilities include:

  • Participating in trails as part of a team in collaboration with QinetiQ’s installation operations
  • Setting up and preparing ranges in compliance with documentation
  • Applying Health, Safety & Environmental procedures
  • Adhering to Risk Assessments and Task Instructions
  • Maintaining core module skills, such as manual handling training

Strict SC security clearance is required for this role.

Location: Fully on-site at QinetiQ Shoeburyness (37 hours per week) Site Focus: Specialising in environmental testing, including defence and security technologies such as ordnance, explosives, and related systems.


Responsibilities

  • Supporting trail operations as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Ensuring robust health, safety, and environmental compliance
  • Setting up and preparing tests and trials according to established processes
  • Operating installation equipment with a focus on accuracy and precision
  • Maintaining and improving core technical skills
  • Adhering to all QinetiQ and HSE guidelines

Essential Experience for the Role

  • Proven ability to solve problems effectively in operational environments
  • Strong understanding of health and safety protocols
  • Experience working to set processes and procedures
  • Ability to collaborate in a team while also working independently when required
  • Hands-on experience with industrial equipment, hand tools, and instrumentation
  • Computer/IT literacy (e.g., software support, data entry, or equipment control systems)

Essential Qualifications

  • Full UK driving licence
  • Good standard of GCSE-level mathematics (or equivalent)

QinetiQ’s Shoeburyness site is one of the UK’s leading defence and security research centres. Specialising in environmental testing, this facility evaluates critical components such as:

  • Ordnance
  • Explosives and ordnance systems
