Summary

The Insurance Officer will play a crucial role within the Insurance and Risk Team, supporting the effective management of the Council's insurance portfolio. This position involves the timely and professional handling of insurance claims, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, Council policies, and insurance procedures. The Insurance Officer will be responsible for administering claims, liaising with insurers and stakeholders, investigating claims, and delivering a high-quality insurance service to the Council and its partner organisations.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and process routine insurance claims made by or against the Council across various insurance classes.
  • Set up and submit claims to external insurers in accordance with policy and procedural requirements.
  • Handle claims related to third-party, property, motor, public liability, and employers' liability.
  • Negotiate and settle property and liability claims within delegated authority and Council handling arrangements.
  • Investigate claims, gather evidence, and assess liability in collaboration with internal departments and external parties.
  • Liaise with insurers, solicitors, loss adjusters, claimants, and Council officers to effectively progress claims.
  • Respond to correspondence, telephone enquiries, emails, and face-to-face enquiries related to insurance matters.

  • Experience in non-life insurance claims handling within the public or private sector.
  • Experience managing motor, public liability, employers' liability, and property insurance claims.
  • Proven experience in negotiating and settling insurance claims.
  • Educated to A-Level standard or equivalent experience.
  • Good standard of literacy and numeracy.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Location: Waltham Forest Town Hall, Forest Road, Walthamstow, E17 4JF, United Kingdom.
  • Work pattern: To be confirmed.
  • Payment schedule: Bi-weekly.
