Job Opportunity: Insurance Support Officer
Do you want your work to have a meaningful impact beyond the office, supporting services relied on by thousands of residents every day? Then become an Insurance Support Officer and gain unique experience in insurance, risk management and claims handling while helping safeguard valuable public resources.
As an Insurance Support Officer, you'll play an important role in helping protect public services, schools and community assets across a unique local government partnership. Working within a friendly and experienced team, you'll support claims handling, maintain insurance records, provide guidance to customers and liaise with insurers and brokers. No two days are the same, with exposure to a wide range of insurance and risk management activities. In return, you'll develop valuable specialist knowledge, build relationships across multiple organisations and gain insight into how insurance supports services used by thousands of residents every day.
Key Requirements
We are looking for candidates who:
- RQF Level 2 qualifications in Maths and English Language, providing a strong foundation for working accurately with information and data.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills, with the ability to provide clear advice and respond effectively to a range of customer needs.
- Strong organisational skills, including the ability to manage a varied workload and work to deadlines when required.
- Confidence using Microsoft 365 applications, including Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Microsoft Teams.
- A proactive and professional approach, with experience of working in a busy environment, using initiative and collaborating effectively as part of a team.

Role Overview
The role provides the chance to make a real difference to public services by ensuring that council assets, services, and communities are appropriately protected through effective insurance and risk management. Unlike many insurance roles that are focused solely on claims or policy administration, this position offers exposure to the full insurance lifecycle. The postholder will work on claims handling, policy management, stakeholder engagement, data reporting, and insurance advice.

This is a Hybrid role with some time in the office at County Hall, the Head Office for the County Council. It is based on the edge of Lewes Town Centre, which is within walking distance to the town and train station. County Hall is also on a bus route and car parking is available on site at a reduced rate for employees. On occasions, you may be required to attend Brighton & Hove City Councils offices in Hove or, Surrey County Councils in Reigate.
