We are working with a growing specialist insurance business that is looking to strengthen its underwriting team in London.

Role Overview

This is an opportunity for an underwriter to take responsibility for managing and developing a portfolio of commercial business. The role will involve reviewing new and existing risks, agreeing appropriate terms, and working closely with brokers and internal stakeholders to support profitable growth.

Responsibilities

  • Assess and underwrite new and renewal business
  • Review submissions and evaluate relevant risk information
  • Prepare quotations and agree pricing, terms, and conditions
  • Manage referrals and more complex or non-standard cases
  • Develop and maintain relationships with brokers and distribution partners
  • Monitor portfolio performance and identify emerging trends
  • Support the ongoing development of underwriting guidelines
  • Contribute to product reviews and wider underwriting initiatives
  • Work closely with claims, actuarial, operations, and business development teams

Requirements

  • Approximately 2–5 years of commercial underwriting experience
  • Experience within casualty, liability, financial lines, cyber, technology, property, or specialist commercial insurance
  • Strong technical underwriting and commercial decision-making skills
  • Experience managing new business, renewals, and referrals
  • Confident in communicating with brokers and internal stakeholders
  • Able to manage priorities and make decisions independently
  • Strong attention to detail and a clear understanding of portfolio performance

Additional Experience

Experience gained within an insurer, MGA, Lloyd’s syndicate, or specialist underwriting business would be beneficial.
