Job Title: Integration Engineer

Location: Remote, UK

Reports to: Head of Integration (UK)

Work schedule: Mon – Fri, 37.5 hours per week

Who are VitalHub?

VitalHub aspire to accelerate the delivery of digital transformation at scale, supporting healthcare organisations internationally to improve how they capture and analyse data. This helps enhance patient flow and enables better coordination of care across planned and unplanned services, mental health, workforce, and compliance. From patient-facing apps and in-hospital flow management to national system control centres supporting the provision of healthcare services across US, UK, Canada, Middle East & Australia, our solutions exist to deliver an eco-system of joined-up technical infrastructure and centralised data integration.

The Opportunity:

The Integration Engineer is responsible for delivering and supporting healthcare integration solutions connecting the company’s products with customer and third-party systems.

Working across assigned products and customer projects, the role delivers technical integration activities throughout the project lifecycle. This includes technical discovery, interface configuration and development, testing, deployment, go-live, documentation, and transition into business-as-usual support. The role combines professional services delivery with core integration engineering, including contributing to the development of new host-system interfaces, reusable integration patterns, and code-first development and deployment practices. The role also contributes to the investigation and resolution of support issues affecting deployed integrations.

Working with an appropriate level of autonomy based on experience and the complexity of the work, the Integration Engineer collaborates with Senior Integration Engineers, project teams, customers, and internal stakeholders to ensure that integration solutions are reliable, maintainable, secure, and supportable.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain a good understanding of the integration capabilities, supported workflows, technical dependencies, and deployment patterns associated with assigned products.
  • Deliver assigned integration activities and manage defined technical work packages across customer projects, coordinating priorities, dependencies, risks, and delivery milestones with Senior Integration Engineers and the relevant project teams.
  • Work with Sales and Customer Success teams to understand customer requirements and provide technical input to the definition of integration deliverables associated with the sale and implementation of the company’s products.
  • Contribute to technical estimates, implementation approaches, assumptions, dependencies, risks, and delivery plans for proposed integration work.
  • Provide technical input to Statements of Work, helping to ensure that relevant scope, deliverables, responsibilities, dependencies, acceptance criteria, and exclusions are understood and documented.
  • Identify potential changes to agreed scope and communicate these to Senior Integration Engineers, Project Managers, and other relevant stakeholders for assessment.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers, Business Analysts, Product teams, customer technical teams, and third-party suppliers to define, plan, and deliver integration requirements.
  • Deliver assigned technical integration work throughout the project lifecycle, from discovery and design through to development, testing, deployment, cutover, go-live, and operational handover.
  • Design, configure, develop, test, and deploy healthcare interfaces using Mirth Connect, BridgeLink, or other Mirth Connect-based integration engines and associated technologies.
  • Configure and extend established integration patterns connecting the company’s products with Patient Administration Systems, Electronic Patient Records, Electronic Medical Records, Radiology Information Systems, and other clinical or administrative systems.
  • Contribute to the development of new integration solutions for previously unsupported host systems, message types, workflows, or technical requirements, translating business and clinical needs into reliable, secure, maintainable, and supportable solutions.
  • Develop and maintain integrations using healthcare interoperability standards and technologies, particularly HL7 v2, REST APIs, JSON, XML, and related data exchange patterns.
  • Plan and support interface testing with internal teams, customers, and third-party suppliers, including connectivity, message validation, system integration, user acceptance, regression, and production verification activities.
  • Undertake and support deployment, cutover, go-live, and post-go-live assurance activities in accordance with agreed plans, ensuring that dependencies, risks, verification steps, and rollback arrangements are understood and appropriately escalated.
  • Participate in planned out-of-hours deployments, cutovers, go-live activities, and other time-critical implementation work where required, working with project teams to plan these activities and minimise their frequency and impact.
  • Investigate and resolve issues affecting deployed integrations, using messages, logs, code, configuration, databases, APIs, and other technical evidence to identify root causes and implement appropriate resolutions, escalating complex, high-risk, or unfamiliar issues where required.
  • Produce and maintain appropriate technical documentation throughout the project and development lifecycle, including solution designs, interface specifications, data mappings, test evidence, deployment and rollback plans, and operational handover materials.
  • Contribute to the development and documentation of reusable integration patterns, shared components, host-system capabilities, deployment requirements, known constraints, and support considerations for use across future customer implementations.
  • Contribute to the organisation’s adoption of code-first integration development, including externally managed JavaScript, reusable modules, source control, peer review, command-line tooling, automated testing, and repeatable deployment processes.
  • Participate in peer reviews of integration designs, configurations, and code, acting on constructive feedback and contributing to the maintenance of appropriate technical and quality standards.
  • Share technical knowledge and experience with colleagues, contributing to the development of capability across the wider team.
  • Participate confidently in customer meetings, technical workshops, delivery planning sessions, project discussions, and incident investigations, communicating technical information clearly to relevant stakeholders.
  • Plan and manage assigned work across customer delivery, core engineering, documentation, and support priorities, communicating progress, risks, dependencies, and required decisions to Senior Integration Engineers and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Attend customer or third-party locations for face-to-face meetings, technical workshops, deployment activities, or issue resolution where there is a specific business or delivery requirement.
  • Provide reasonable transitional support to Implementation and other internal teams where activities relate to existing customer commitments, legacy solutions, or the effective transfer of responsibilities, knowledge, and documentation into the appropriate operational team.
  • Support the identification, documentation, and progressive transition of legacy activities that do not form part of the Integration Engineering team’s intended long-term responsibilities.
  • Work in accordance with relevant information governance, data protection, security, clinical safety, quality, and change management requirements, while contributing to the continuous improvement of the company’s products, integration capabilities, and delivery practices.
  • Embrace and demonstrate the company’s vision and values.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
