SWIFT Integration Engineer – Payments & Settlement
Location: London
Contract: 6 Months +
Day rate: £600 - £700 p/d
The role
A growing financial-markets business is looking for a SWIFT Settlement Connectivity Engineer to help build connectivity across multiple settlement venues.
The successful contractor will work on the technical connections between internal systems, SWIFT and external settlement or post-trade platforms.
This is not a role focused solely on monitoring an existing SWIFT environment. The contractor must be able to build and configure connectivity, develop the necessary integrations and support testing through to production.
Responsibilities
- Build SWIFT connectivity for multi-venue settlement.
- Connect internal trading, middle-office or settlement systems with external venues and service providers.
- Configure message flows, routing and integration points.
- Develop the interfaces or scripts required to send and receive settlement messages.
- Map internal transaction and settlement data into the required message formats.
- Work with operations and technology stakeholders to understand settlement requirements.
- Support connectivity to custodians, agents, venues and post-trade providers.
- Perform end-to-end connectivity and settlement testing.
- Investigate failed messages, routing issues, rejected transactions and data-format problems.
- Build appropriate logging, monitoring and exception-handling processes.
- Support production implementation and post-go-live stabilisation.
- Document message flows, interfaces and support procedures.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
