When a retiring IFA hands over the business they have spent a career building, the experience of that transition matters, to them, to their clients, and to us. At Mattioli Woods, we are looking for someone who knows the IFA market from the inside, and who has the relationship skills, commercial judgement, and operational discipline to make every transition work.

The successful applicant will be the person they trust to guide them through one of the most significant decisions of their professional lives, and the person who ensures the integration delivers for everyone involved.

The opportunity

Reporting to the Managing Director of Wealth, you will manage the end-to-end journey; from early engagement through to full integration. You will work in close partnership with the Director of Merger & Acquisitions, who originates and sources deals, and take ownership of execution and relationship management from that point forward.

This is not a project management role, and it is not a business development role. It is a role for someone who has spent their career in financial services, understands what retiring advisers care about, and can build the kind of trust that makes a difficult transition feel straightforward.

What we're looking for

  • Minimum of ten years' experience in financial services or wealth management - you will understand the IFA sector from the inside, not just in principle
  • Demonstrable experience managing relationships with retiring or senior IFA professionals, and a genuine understanding of what drives their decisions
  • Deep familiarity with the IFA market: the regulatory environment, the sensitivities of client book transitions, and what a good outcome looks like for an adviser and their clients
  • Strong coordination and delivery skills, with the ability to manage multiple concurrent transactions without losing the personal touch
  • Excellent interpersonal skills - empathy, discretion, and the ability to build genuine trust at a senior level are essential
  • Commercial awareness and the ability to assess the risk and suitability of acquisition opportunities
  • A relevant financial services qualification is desirable; Diploma in Financial Planning, CFA, or equivalent would be an advantage

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
