Job Summary

The Insolvency Service is a leading government agency which plays a crucial role in providing essential services to the public and to business. The work we do is important to the proper functioning of markets, the economy in general and support for thousands of people each year who are in financial difficulty.

Investigation Services, within the Insolvency Service’s Enforcement Group, delivers civil and criminal enforcement activities that supports fair and open markets, maintains confidence in the company and insolvency regimes, and helps reduce the harm caused by fraudulent activity.

This role sits within the Intelligence Team in Investigation Services. The team supports operational activity by ensuring that intelligence is handled consistently, developed effectively and shared with the right people at the right time.

Job Description

As an EO Intelligence Officer, you will join the Intelligence Team and help turn information from a range of sources into clear, reliable intelligence that supports operational decisions.

Working across the various intelligence workstreams, you will contribute to a range of intelligence functions and provide a responsive service to internal colleagues and external stakeholders.

This is a varied role for someone who can work carefully with sensitive material, exercise sound judgement and communicate clearly. You will maintain accurate intelligence records, prepare intelligence products, respond to enquiries and work collaboratively with colleagues and external partners.

The role offers an opportunity to build practical intelligence experience while supporting enforcement work that protects the public and business community.

Responsibilities

As an Intelligence Officer, you will:

  • assess and evaluate information from internal and external sources, considering its reliability, credibility, and relevance in line with intelligence-handling standards
  • develop information into clear, actionable intelligence products that support operational decision-making
  • disseminate intelligence to internal teams and external partners in a timely, secure, and appropriate way
  • maintain accurate intelligence records and databases, ensuring information is recorded and managed in accordance with relevant requirements
  • respond to intelligence enquiries and provide clear advice and guidance to colleagues and stakeholders
  • manage competing priorities and deliver accurate work to operational deadlines
  • identify opportunities to develop intelligence, improve processes, and contribute to wider team initiatives
  • provide administrative and operational support to senior leaders and the wider intelligence function, contributing to the delivery of the Intelligence Team's objectives

As An Intelligence Officer, You Will

Person specification

You Will Be Able To Demonstrate That You Can

  • manage sensitive information with discretion, professionalism, and integrity
  • pay close attention to detail and maintain accurate records and intelligence systems
  • analyse information, identify key issues and use sound judgement to reach evidence-based conclusions
  • work collaboratively as part of a team while using initiative and taking ownership of work independently
  • communicate clearly and concisely in writing and verbally, including producing reports and engaging with a range of stakeholders
  • organise and prioritise competing demands, delivering accurate work to deadlines
  • use digital tools, including Microsoft Office applications, to research, analyse and present information
  • look for practical opportunities to develop intelligence and improve ways of working

Essential Criteria

To be successful in this role, you must have:

  • experience or practical understanding of intelligence work or insolvency work – candidates may evidence either area; experience in both is not required
  • experience of working with sensitive material and applying appropriate information-handling requirements
  • the ability to exercise sound judgement and discretion when assessing, recording, and sharing information

Further Information

Please note: This vacancy is advertised across 11 locations; however, Stratford and Croydon are only available to current Insolvency Service Staff. The advertised salary includes London weighting, which is only applicable to internal candidates.

Security clearance: The successful candidate must obtain and maintain Security Check (SC) clearance. Any offer of employment will be conditional on achieving the required level of clearance.
