Interactive & Creative Media Associate | 2–4 PQE | West End | Legal 500 & Chambers Ranked Law Firm

Are you a technically strong and commercially minded solicitor with experience in interactive and creative media, looking to develop your career within a specialist, market-leading practice?

This is an excellent opportunity to join a highly regarded Interactive & Creative Media team, working directly with leading partners on high-profile matters across the games, advertising, production, fashion and digital media sectors.

The role offers meaningful client contact, responsibility from day one and the opportunity to work on some of the more interesting legal and commercial issues emerging across the creative and interactive economy.

The Interactive & Creative Media Group is one of the firm's flagship practices and is recognised as a market leader across the interactive entertainment and creative industries.

  • Advertising – including influencer marketing, social media, agencies and talent businesses
  • Games – including developers, publishers, esports and interactive entertainment

The group also advises on emerging technologies including AR, VR, mixed reality and AI, as well as the regulatory and commercial issues arising from the rapidly evolving digital landscape.

The team works with clients ranging from early-stage studios and start-ups through to global publishers, agencies and platforms, providing exposure to a broad and varied caseload.

The Role

You will join the team as an Associate, managing your own caseload and working closely with partners on a range of commercial, regulatory, intellectual property and technology matters.

A particular focus of the role will be advising clients within the games and interactive entertainment sector, including developers, publishers and technology businesses.

Your work will include drafting and negotiating commercial agreements such as:

  • Game development agreements, including work-for-hire and co-development arrangements
  • Publishing agreements, including advances, royalties, recoupment and exclusivity
  • Co-development, outsourcing and production agreements
  • Porting and platform conversion agreements
  • Engine, middleware and third-party technology licences
  • Platform holder and distribution agreements
  • Cloud gaming and streaming arrangements
  • Cross-promotion and bundling agreements
  • Advertising, influencer and creator agreements
  • Terms of service, virtual currency and virtual item arrangements

You will also advise on relevant regulatory and intellectual property issues, including consumer protection, age-rating and content compliance, advertising and influencer marketing, data protection and emerging technology.

There will also be opportunities to support corporate transactions in the sector, including investment rounds, financings, M&A and joint ventures, through IP, IT and commercial due diligence and transactional documentation.

Requirements

  • Qualified as a Solicitor in England and Wales with 2–4 years' PQE.
  • Trained and practised within a well-regarded City, specialist or in-house legal team.
  • Experience within an interactive and creative media practice is highly desirable, ideally including exposure to the games and interactive entertainment sector.
  • Experience across one or more of advertising, influencer marketing and social media, games and emerging technologies, fashion, or commercial production, animation and VFX.
  • Strong technical ability with excellent attention to detail.
  • Commercially minded, with clear and concise communication skills.
  • Comfortable taking ownership of matters and dealing directly with clients and senior stakeholders.
  • Well organised, resilient and able to manage a demanding workload to tight deadlines.
  • A genuine interest in the media, entertainment and technology sectors.
