Banking & Trade Finance Lawyer
A leading global financial institution is seeking an experienced Banking & Trade Finance Lawyer to join its in-house legal team on a 12-month maternity cover contract commencing in December 2026.
This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially-minded lawyer to provide legal support across a broad range of international financing and trade-related transactions, working closely with business stakeholders, legal colleagues and control functions across multiple jurisdictions.
The Role
You will advise on a variety of lending and trade finance matters, including:
- Trade finance transactions and documentary trade products
- Lending and credit documentation under English law
- Export and structured financing arrangements
- Risk participation and credit risk mitigation structures
- Review, negotiation and management of standard and bespoke financing documentation
- Cross-border legal issues impacting international business units
- Coordination with external counsel and internal legal teams globally
- Supporting business initiatives, regulatory developments and strategic projects

Candidate Profile
To be considered, you should have:
- England & Wales qualification as a solicitor
- 3+ years' post-qualification experience
- Strong banking and finance experience gained in private practice or in-house
- A solid grounding in lending and credit documentation
- Experience advising on multi-jurisdictional transactions and stakeholder matters
- Excellent communication and relationship management skills

Desirable Experience
- Trade finance or structured trade product exposure
- Letters of Credit, Standby Letters of Credit or related products
- Knowledge of ICC rules (UCP, ISP or similar market conventions)
- Experience working within a financial institution, treasury function or international banking environment
