Summary
The Bus Technology Transition Consultant will play a pivotal role in guiding and overseeing the integration of bus-related technology systems into the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority (YNYCA). This position is crucial for evaluating the current transport technology infrastructure within YNYCA and its partner authorities, including the City of York Council and North Yorkshire Council. The consultant will devise a comprehensive strategy to ensure a seamless transition, continuity, and future enhancement of essential bus service systems, effective from April 2027.
Responsibilities
- Conduct an in-depth analysis of existing bus-related technology systems across YNYCA and its partner authorities.
- Develop a thorough understanding of current system architecture, ownership, supplier contracts, licensing, and operational processes.
- Create and maintain a detailed technology transition plan for all bus systems and services.
- Ensure the seamless integration of systems into the Combined Authority without service disruption or degradation.
- Identify and manage key risks, dependencies, and mitigation strategies associated with the transition program.

Requirements
Essential Experience Required
- Extensive experience in the bus industry, public transport sector, local authority transport services, or bus operations.
- Proven track record in delivering transport technology and ICT transformation projects.
- Demonstrable experience with bus operational systems and supporting technologies.
- Strong expertise in managing large-scale technology transition, migration, or implementation programs.

Essential Qualifications Required
- Degree-level qualification in Information Technology, Transport Planning, Engineering, Computer Science, Project Management, or a related field.
- Relevant professional qualification in Project Management (such as PRINCE2, MSP, Agile, APM, PMP) or significant equivalent experience.
- Evidence of ongoing professional development in transport technology or digital transformation.

- Contract Duration: 3 months with a local authority
- Rate: £500/day Umbrella
- Working Hours: 37 hours per week
- Payment Schedule: Bi-weekly
