Interim Chief Financial Officer
An outstanding opportunity for an Interim Chief Financial Officer to join the executive leadership team of a large multi-academy trust at a defining moment in its development, providing steady, expert leadership through a period of significant organisational change.
About the Role
This is an interim appointment to lead the finance function through a critical period of transition, providing steady, expert leadership while longer-term arrangements are confirmed.
As Interim CFO you will carry the ultimate responsibility for the finance function, supporting the CEO (as Accounting Officer) and working closely with the Board of Directors, school leaders and central teams. For the right candidate there is also opportunity to oversee other teams such as IT, Procurement and Estates.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing and implementing strategic financial planning, scenario-modelling and long-term sustainability frameworks.
- Providing Board-level financial advisory, risk management, and oversight of reserves, investments and banking relationships.
- Ensuring rigorous regulatory compliance — including the Academies Trust Handbook — and transparent financial reporting across all schools.
- Leading, developing and inspiring the finance team, driving excellence, accountability and innovation in a distributed multi-site environment.
- Overseeing capital projects, growth planning and procurement strategies that deliver value for money and support school improvement.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
