Job Role: Interim Closedown Support Accountant
Contract Duration: 6 - 9 Months
Rate: DOE
Hybrid: Full Time | 1-2 Day per Week Onsite
Start Date: TBC
Location: Southeast
Main Duties:
- Support the year-end closedown process, ensuring key deadlines are met.
- Assist in the preparation of the Statement of Accounts and associated working papers.
- Liaise with external auditors, responding to queries and providing supporting information.
- Maintain and reconcile the Council's Fixed Asset Register.
- Undertake asset accounting and reconciliation activities using Excel and relevant asset management systems.
- Review financial information to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with accounting standards.
- Prepare audit-ready working papers and supporting documentation.
- Work closely with the wider finance team to resolve reconciliation issues and accounting discrepancies.
- Provide general technical accounting support throughout the closedown period.

Candidate Requirements:
- Previous experience supporting year-end closedown within a UK Local Authority.
- Strong understanding of local government accounting practices and statutory reporting requirements.
- Experience managing external audit requests and resolving audit queries.
- Strong reconciliation and fixed asset accounting experience.
- Excellent Excel skills and attention to detail.
