Interim Commercial & Regulatory Counsel

3-6 Month Contract | Immediate Start | Hybrid Working (2 Days Office / 3 Days Remote)

Our client, a leading UK regulated financial services organisation, is seeking an experienced Commercial & Regulatory Counsel to join its legal team on an initial 3-6 month basis. This is an excellent opportunity for a lawyer with strong commercial contracting experience and a solid understanding of the UK banking and payments regulatory landscape to support a dynamic and fast-paced business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a broad range of commercial agreements, including customer, supplier and technology contracts.
  • Advising on outsourcing arrangements, subcontracting structures and back-to-back contractual frameworks.
  • Providing legal support on matters relating to payments, banking regulations and conduct requirements.
  • Working closely with business stakeholders to ensure products, services and contractual arrangements meet applicable regulatory obligations.
  • Supporting legal and compliance teams with regulatory analysis and implementation of evolving requirements.
  • Advising on legal risk across commercial initiatives and strategic projects.
  • Assisting with the review and enhancement of customer terms, supplier terms and internal governance documentation.

Candidate Profile

  • Qualified lawyer with proven in-house or private practice experience within payments sector.
  • Strong commercial contracts background with experience drafting and negotiating complex agreements.
  • Knowledge of payments regulation, retail banking and/or consumer finance.
  • Understanding of material outsourcing requirements and regulatory expectations within regulated environments.
  • Ability to provide pragmatic, commercial and risk-based legal advice.
  • Experience working directly with business stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.
  • Awareness or working knowledge of the UK financial services regulatory framework would be advantageous.
