Interim Consultant – Core Technology & Data Transformation (3-Month Contract)

Location: Southampton, UK (Predominantly On-site)
Contract: 3-Month Fixed-Term Contract
Experience: 12+ Years
Start Date: Immediate

Role Overview

WAISL, the Technology and Digital partner for a leading sports and leisure organisation in Hampshire (CLIENTCO), is seeking a senior Technology Operations Consultant to assess CLIENTCO's current technology and enterprise data landscape and design its future Core Technology & Data Target Operating Model (TOM).

This high-impact consulting engagement requires expertise in IT Operations, Infrastructure, Enterprise Data Governance, Service Management, Vendor Governance, Cyber Security, and Technology Transformation. The successful candidate will work closely with WAISL leadership, CLIENTCO executives, and cross-functional teams to define a scalable managed services operating model and transformation roadmap.

Key Responsibilities

Current State Assessment

  • Lead a comprehensive review of CLIENTCO's Technology and Data environment, including:
    • Enterprise data governance, ownership, quality, lifecycle, GDPR compliance, security, and Delegation of Authority (DoA).
    • IT infrastructure, networks, cloud services, end-user computing, IT operations, service management (ITSM), asset management, procurement, vendor management, cyber security, and governance.
  • Identify technology, operational and data governance gaps, security risks, cost optimisation opportunities, quick wins, and strategic recommendations.

Target Operating Model (TOM)

  • Design a future-state Technology & Data Operating Model covering:
    • Enterprise Data Governance
    • IT Infrastructure & Managed Services
    • Service Desk & ITSM
    • Technology Procurement & Vendor Management
    • Cyber Security & Compliance
  • Define governance structures, organisation design, RACI, DoA, service catalogue, SOPs, SLAs/KPIs, vendor interfaces, and operational governance.

Stakeholder Management

  • Engage with CLIENTCO executives, department heads, current technology providers, and WAISL leadership (Technology, Procurement, Cyber Security, Managed Services) through workshops and governance sessions to validate requirements and future operating models.

Transformation Planning

  • Develop a phased transformation roadmap including:
    • Prioritised workstreams
    • Quick wins
    • Resource requirements
    • Transition and mobilisation plans
    • Risk identification and mitigation

Governance & Executive Reporting

  • Provide regular executive updates and present assessment findings, TOM, governance recommendations, risks, and transformation roadmap to support executive decision-making.

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • 12+ years leading Enterprise IT Operations, Infrastructure or Technology Services.
  • Strong expertise in IT Operations, Infrastructure, ITIL, ITSM, Enterprise Data Governance, Managed Services, Cloud, Networks and End User Computing.
  • Proven experience designing Target Operating Models and leading enterprise technology assessments.
  • Experience managing outsourced IT environments, vendors and cross-functional transformation programmes.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, workshop facilitation, analytical, documentation and executive presentation skills.

Desirable

  • Experience within Sports, Entertainment, Hospitality or Smart Venues.
  • Experience transitioning services from incumbent providers.
  • Knowledge of Cyber Security governance.
  • Experience with ServiceNow, Freshservice, Jira Service Management or similar ITSM platforms.
  • Technology procurement and vendor selection experience.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or related field.
  • ITIL Foundation (minimum).
  • ITIL Managing Professional, PRINCE2, PMP or equivalent certifications preferred.

Successful delivery of a comprehensive Current State Assessment, Enterprise Data Assessment, Target Operating Model, Governance Framework, and Transformation Roadmap that enables CLIENTCO's transition to a secure, scalable, and best-in-class managed technology services environment.
