The Privacy & Data Protection Manager maintains and develops the processes and policies that uphold high standards of data privacy across the Group, consistent with the firm's values and the expectations of its clients, advisers, and employees (data subjects). The role supports privacy compliance Group-wide and provides the advice and guidance needed to mitigate data privacy risks.
It involves close, regular interaction with all parts of the Group, supporting the employees and locations that process personal data - including clients, prospects, advisers, partner support, employees, third parties, and contractors. The role sits within a team of seven.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert advice and guidance on data protection, privacy, and associated matters.
- Undertake and support Data Privacy Impact Assessments (DPIAs) for new and updated projects, where appropriate.
- Review historical processing activity to identify where a DPIA is required.
- Support third-party due diligence in relation to data protection.

Functional Knowledge
- Comprehensive knowledge of, and experience applying, the UK Data Protection Act 2018, UK GDPR and EU GDPR.
- Working knowledge of international data protection legislation across the Group's operating territories.
- Technical competence in data protection, with a strong, current understanding of privacy and security risk across all relevant jurisdictions.
Business Expertise
- Understanding of the Group's legal entity structure and the regulatory regimes applying to its key entities.
- Ideally, familiarity with key stakeholders to source insight on risks and provide effective challenge.
- Ability to work in a cross-functional, cross-cultural environment.

Problem Solving
- Strong problem-solving skill, including analysing breach reports to assess risk to data subjects and the organisation. The Act's requirements are rarely black and white, so the role calls for judgement in achieving compliance while minimising business disruption.
Leadership & Interpersonal Skills
- No permanent line management responsibilities at present; acts as a role model across the division.
- Requires daily interaction at all levels and a broad, flexible interpersonal toolkit: self-awareness, collaboration, clear communication, conflict resolution, resilience when faced with differing opinions, and the ability to give constructive feedback.
