Interim Divisional CFO

Energy Trading & Supply Business | Interim Contract

Global Accounting Network are partnering exclusively with a leading energy trading and supply business that is seeking an Interim Divisional CFO to provide senior financial leadership through a period of significant complexity and change.

This is a high-profile role, working closely with the CEO, Board and Group stakeholders, and will suit an experienced finance leader with deep energy trading and supply expertise, exceptional technical accounting knowledge and the commercial judgement to operate effectively in a fast-paced trading environment.

The successful candidate will be hands-on from day one, providing immediate leadership across financial control, reporting, technical accounting and commercial decision-making, whilst acting as a trusted partner to the CEO and wider leadership team.

The Role

As Interim Divisional CFO, you will take ownership of the finance function and provide robust leadership across reporting, financial control, technical accounting and commercial finance.

You will be expected to bring pace and clarity to complex issues, challenge existing assumptions and ensure the business has confidence in the numbers and the decisions being made from them.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing senior financial leadership across the energy trading and supply business.
  • Acting as a trusted and challenging partner to the CEO, providing fast, rigorous analysis and clear commercial recommendations.
  • Leading the financial control agenda, ensuring reporting is accurate, robust and delivered to a high standard.
  • Interrogating reconciliations, estimates and financial reporting, identifying and resolving inherited issues.
  • Providing technical accounting leadership across IFRS 9, IFRS 13 and IFRS 15, including derivatives, hedging and complex valuations.
  • Working closely with auditors and confidently challenging and defending technical accounting conclusions.
  • Understanding the financial implications of trading, retail operations and PPAs across profitability, cash flow, collateral requirements and returns.
  • Translating complex financial and trading information into clear, actionable recommendations for the CEO, Board and Group.
  • Providing strong leadership and accountability across the Finance team.
  • Providing stability, credibility and continuity across Finance during an extended interim period.

About You

We are looking for a senior finance leader who has operated at CFO / FD / SVP Finance level within an energy trading, energy supply or similarly complex trading environment.

You will need to demonstrate:

  • Deep experience within energy trading and/or energy supply.
  • Strong technical expertise across IFRS 9, IFRS 13 and IFRS 15.
  • Extensive knowledge of derivatives, hedging and complex valuation methodologies.
  • The credibility and confidence to challenge auditors and defend accounting conclusions.
  • A proven track record of taking control of finance functions and improving the quality and reliability of financial reporting.
  • Strong commercial understanding of energy trading, retail and PPAs and their impact on profit, cash, collateral and returns.
  • Experience working directly with CEOs, Boards and senior Group stakeholders.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to get quickly to the heart of complex issues.
  • The resilience and authority to operate effectively in a demanding, high-pressure environment.
  • A hands-on leadership style, with the ability to get into the detail when required while maintaining a strategic view.
