Interim Finance Director
Location: Near Oxford
Contract: 6-month interim assignment
Rate: Competitive daily rate
A fast-growth SME based near Oxford is seeking an experienced Interim Finance Director for an initial six-month contract.
About the Role
The Interim Finance Director will take full ownership of the finance function.
This is a broad, hands-on leadership role combining strong financial control and reporting with strategic planning and commercial decision support.
The successful candidate will ideally come from a fast growth/ start up / PE backed or VC backed environment who can help the business navigate its next stage of growth while strengthening its financial infrastructure, processes and capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the finance function end to end
- Own strategic financial planning, budgeting, forecasting and long-range financial modelling.
- Lead the production of management accounts, statutory reporting and the annual audit process.
- Partner with operational leadership team on commercial, operational and investment decisions.
- Take ownership of treasury, cash-flow management, working capital and capital planning.
- Evaluate business cases, investments and other strategic growth opportunities.
- Strengthen financial controls, systems, policies and processes to support continued growth.
- Provide clear, accurate and commercially focused financial reporting to the Board and its committees.
- Identify opportunities to improve financial performance, operational efficiency and profitability.
- Lead, manage and develop the finance team.
- Support the executive team through a period of growth, change and increasing organisational complexity.

Candidate Profile
- Fully qualified accountant: ACA, ACCA or CIMA.
- Significant experience leading a finance function at Finance Director or equivalent level.
- Strong track record of partnering with CEOs, Boards and executive leadership teams.
- Previous experience within a fast-growth SME or similarly dynamic, entrepreneurial environment.
- Demonstrable experience improving financial controls, reporting, systems and processes.
- Strong strategic and commercial capability, supported by a robust technical accounting foundation.
- Comfortable operating across both high-level strategic priorities and detailed financial matters.
- Confident and credible communicator with experience presenting financial information to Boards and senior stakeholders.
- Practical, hands-on and adaptable leadership style.
- Able to quickly assess a business, establish priorities and deliver impact within an interim assignment.
