Interim Finance Director (6-Month Contract)
Location: Essex (Hybrid, with travel to operational sites)
Day Rate: £500-700/day, Outside IR35
Duration: 6 months (with potential to extend)
A well-established, PE-backed, multi-site services group is seeking an experienced Interim Finance Director to lead commercial finance for one of its key operating divisions. Operating in complex, project and contract-led environments, the Group continues to grow through organic wins and acquisition, and this role sits at the heart of that growth.
This is a senior, hands-on interim brief for a credible, commercially astute finance leader who can bring immediate impact - strengthening systems, reporting and controls, supporting a live pipeline of M&A activity, and acting as a trusted finance partner to divisional and Group leadership.
The Opportunity
- Lead the commercial finance function for a core operating division spanning multiple service lines, with focus flexing to other divisions as priorities dictate.
- Act as Divisional Finance Director, partnering the Divisional Managing Director and Commercial Director, providing clear, timely commercial and financial insight to support decision-making.
- Own timely, accurate monthly reporting and maintain strong financial stewardship for the division.
- Manage the budgeting and forecasting cycle, working closely with divisional leadership to build robust, credible plans.
- Oversee management accounts production and the commercial/procurement links across the division's service lines.
- Support live and pipeline M&A activity, including financial due diligence and post-acquisition integration.
- Strengthen financial systems, reporting and controls within the division, driving improved accuracy, timeliness and governance.
- Flex across the wider commercial finance function as priorities dictate.
- Establish strong relationships with the Divisional MD, Commercial Director, Group leadership and external stakeholders.
- Deliver from day one, bringing pace and momentum to a genuinely varied and high-impact interim assignment.

About You
- Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with substantial senior interim Finance Director, Divisional FD or Commercial Finance / Finance Business Partner leadership experience.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with the seniority, gravitas and credibility to partner effectively with a senior Divisional MD and Commercial Director.
- Sector experience within construction, infrastructure, facilities management, housebuilding or other project/contract-led environments.
- Proven financial planning, budgeting and forecasting experience, alongside strong management accounts and reporting discipline.
- A strong track record of improving systems, reporting and financial control within a fast-moving, multi-site business.
- Experience supporting M&A activity - due diligence, integration or corporate finance.
- Able to start an interim assignment within 1-2 weeks (ideally immediately).
- Flexible, pragmatic and hands-on.
