The Opportunity
We are supporting a rapidly evolving Private Equity-backed transportation and freight forwarding business, based close to Heathrow, in the appointment of an experienced Interim Finance Director for an initial six-month assignment.
This is a high-impact role for an experienced finance leader who can quickly establish credibility, take ownership of the finance function and provide strong commercial and operational support to the CEO, senior leadership team and PE investors.
The successful candidate will ideally have significant experience within freight forwarding, logistics or transportation, combined with previous experience operating in a Private Equity-backed environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Take overall responsibility for the finance function during the interim period.
- Partner closely with the CEO, board and Private Equity shareholders.
- Lead the budgeting, forecasting and management reporting processes.
- Provide clear, commercially focused financial analysis and insight.
- Strengthen financial controls, processes and reporting disciplines.
- Oversee cash flow, working capital and liquidity management.
- Drive improvements in profitability, margin visibility and operational performance.
- Support board and investor reporting requirements.
- Identify opportunities to improve financial performance and operational efficiency.
- Lead and develop the existing finance team.
- Support strategic initiatives, including potential M&A, integration or transformation activity where relevant.
- Ensure the business has robust financial information to support decision-making throughout the assignment.

About You
We are looking for an accomplished Interim FD / Finance Director / CFO who can make an immediate impact.
You will ideally have:
- Proven Finance Director or senior finance leadership experience.
- Hands-on experience within freight forwarding, logistics, transport or a closely related sector – essential.
- Previous experience working within a Private Equity-backed business.
- Strong understanding of working capital, cash management and commercial finance.
- Experience of operating in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
- The ability to quickly understand a business and identify key financial and operational priorities.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, including experience working with PE investors and boards.
- A pragmatic, hands-on approach with the ability to balance strategic thinking with operational delivery.
- Ideally, a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
