Trust Finance Officer

Location: Greater Manchester
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
Hours: 25 Hours per Week (Part-Time)
Contract: Permanent
DBS Requirement: Enhanced DBS Check Required
Sector: Education / Not-for-Profit

The Opportunity

Our client, a successful multi-site educational organisation, is seeking an experienced Trust Finance Officer to join their central finance team on a part-time basis. This is an excellent opportunity for a finance professional with strong transactional finance experience to support the effective financial management of multiple schools within a collaborative and purpose-driven environment.

Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will support the day-to-day running of the finance function, ensuring financial controls are maintained and that purchasing, payments, income, and reconciliations are processed accurately and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the operation and monitoring of financial accounts and budgets.
  • Process purchase orders, invoices, and supplier payments in line with established financial procedures.
  • Verify budget availability prior to processing expenditure.
  • Administer BACS payments and other authorised financial transactions.
  • Reconcile bank accounts, payment cards, and supplier statements.
  • Process and record income, ensuring accurate banking and financial records.
  • Maintain petty cash records and ensure all transactions are appropriately authorised.
  • Resolve supplier queries and investigate outstanding items.
  • Liaise with suppliers, contractors, and internal stakeholders on financial matters.
  • Support budget holders with purchasing processes and value-for-money considerations.
  • Monitor income and expenditure for trips, events, and other activities, producing reports where required.
  • Maintain accurate asset and inventory records.
  • Assist with financial reporting, year-end activities, and audit preparation.
  • Contribute to the ongoing improvement of financial systems and processes.

About You

  • Previous experience in a finance, accounts, or school finance position.
  • Strong understanding of purchase ledger, accounts administration, and payment processing.
  • Experience completing reconciliations and maintaining accurate financial records.
  • Confident using Microsoft Excel and finance systems.
  • Excellent organisational skills with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective working relationships.
  • Able to manage multiple priorities and work independently when required.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience within the education, public sector, or not-for-profit sector.
  • Exposure to budget monitoring and financial reporting.
  • Knowledge of financial compliance and governance processes.
