Interim Financial Accountant

Hays are delighted to be supporting a highly respected organisation in Aberdeen with the appointment of an interim Financial Accountant for a period of at least 6 months.

This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified accountant to join a high-performing finance team and play a key role in statutory reporting, financial control, compliance, and financial improvement initiatives.

Reporting into senior finance leadership, you will be responsible for supporting the preparation of statutory accounts, ensuring robust financial controls are maintained, and delivering high-quality financial information to support decision-making across the organisation. The role also offers the opportunity to contribute to ongoing finance transformation and automation projects, making it ideal for an individual who enjoys driving continuous improvement alongside core financial accounting responsibilities.

The Role

Working as part of a collaborative finance function, you will support the delivery of accurate financial reporting, statutory compliance, and strong financial governance. You will work closely with colleagues across finance and the wider business to ensure financial processes operate effectively and support organisational objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the preparation of statutory financial statements and associated disclosures in line with IFRS requirements
  • Coordinate and maintain supporting schedules and working papers for annual audit processes
  • Prepare and review monthly balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring all movements are fully understood
  • Support the production of monthly management accounts and financial reporting packs
  • Manage fixed asset accounting, including additions, disposals, and depreciation calculations
  • Prepare VAT and other tax returns, ensuring ongoing regulatory compliance
  • Produce cash flow forecasts and support treasury and banking activities
  • Maintain and strengthen key financial controls, policies, and procedures
  • Support finance systems development, automation, and process improvement initiatives
  • Build effective relationships with internal stakeholders, auditors, and external bodies
  • Assist with risk management activities and support good financial governance across the organisation
  • Provide support across the wider finance team during periods of peak activity

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
