Are you a technically strong finance professional looking for an opportunity to make an immediate impact within a changing and evolving finance function? This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Financial Accountant to join a well-established organisation on an initial 6-month contract, playing a pivotal role in financial reporting, team leadership, and finance process improvement during a period of organisational change.

The Role
As Financial Accountant, you will report directly to the Finance Manager and take responsibility for ensuring the smooth delivery of month-end and year-end activities while leading a team of Finance Assistants.
This position combines strong technical accounting responsibilities with people management, process improvement, and project involvement. You will play a key role in supporting financial reporting deadlines, strengthening controls, and helping the organisation deliver its finance improvement objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the preparation and delivery of monthly management accounts.
- Ensure month-end processes are completed accurately and within agreed deadlines.
- Maintain and monitor month-end timetables and reporting schedules.
- Assist with the preparation of statutory accounts and year-end audit requirements.
- Manage and maintain the fixed asset register.
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of approximately 5-7 Finance Assistants.
- Ensure effective processing and control of accounts payable and accounts receivable activities.
- Drive consistency, accountability, and continuous improvement across the finance team.
- Support the implementation of new finance systems and process enhancements.
- Review and update finance policies and procedures.
- Strengthen financial controls and identify efficiencies across finance operations.
- Work closely with senior finance stakeholders to support the delivery of finance objectives.
- Provide leadership and direction during a period of operational and structural change.

The Ideal Candidate
We are seeking a confident and resilient finance professional who combines technical accounting expertise with strong leadership skills. You will be comfortable managing competing priorities, driving change, and providing clear direction within a busy finance environment.
Essential
- Previous experience in a Financial Accountant, Management Accountant, Senior Accountant, or similar role.
- Strong understanding of month-end and year-end accounting processes.
- Experience supporting or preparing statutory accounts.
- Experience working alongside external auditors.
- Proven team leadership or supervisory experience.
- Strong financial reporting and reconciliation skills.
- Experience improving finance processes and controls.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities.
Desirable
- Fully qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA, ACA, CA) or qualified by experience.
- Experience managing transactional finance teams.
- Previous involvement in finance transformation or systems implementation projects.
- Experience reviewing and improving finance policies and procedures.
- Exposure to fixed asset accounting and control environments.
