Start date: November 2026

About the role
We’re looking for an experienced, hands-on Financial Controller to provide maternity cover across two sister companies, Myley Transport and Myley Education (trading as Boost).
Both businesses share a purpose: improving the lives of people living and working in care homes. Myley Transport provides fully managed excursions and experiences that help care home residents stay connected with the world around them, while Boost is an AI-enabled education and policy platform helping care organisations equip their teams to deliver exceptional care.
This is a varied role spanning both businesses, with responsibility for financial control, management information and day-to-day finance leadership. You’ll own the monthly management accounts and core finance operations to help provide the commercial insight that helps our teams make informed decisions.
You’ll work closely with our Fractional Head of Finance and colleagues across sales and operations, as well as our outsourced HR provider.
The role would suit someone who enjoys small, fast-growing, purpose-led businesses, is comfortable working independently and can move easily between detailed finance work and the bigger commercial picture.
What you’ll be responsible for
Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing the month-end processes and preparing management accounts across both businesses, including journals, accruals, prepayments, deferred and accrued income, and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Supporting budgets and forecasts, producing clear variance analysis and management information to inform commercial decision-making.
- Maintaining cash-flow forecasts and identifying potential risks and funding requirements early.
- Managing accounts payable and receivable, invoicing, payments, receipts, expenses and client billing queries.
- Managing the end-to-end payroll process and working with our HR provider on starters, leavers, remuneration and benefits.
- Maintaining strong financial controls, accurate general ledgers and high-quality financial records.
- Preparing quarterly VAT returns and ensuring PAYE, National Insurance, pensions and other financial obligations are completed accurately and on time.
- Supporting year-end close, statutory accounts and other reporting alongside the Fractional Head of Finance.
- Maintaining accurate financial information in Xero and improving finance processes, reporting and documentation.
- Identifying opportunities to streamline and automate processes and make financial information more accessible to non-finance colleagues.
- Providing financial analysis and supporting ad hoc projects as required.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

How you work
You’ll be proactive, hands-on and analytical, comfortable getting into the detail, identifying issues and finding practical solutions without needing significant direction.
We encourage confidence in working with financial data from varied sources, bringing together information from different systems, reports and operational inputs, and making sense of it to produce accurate, coherent and useful financial information. You’ll be comfortable investigating discrepancies, understanding what sits behind the numbers and ensuring the underlying data is reliable.
You’ll be accurate and well organised, with the ability to manage deadlines and competing priorities across two businesses while maintaining strong financial controls and attention to detail. You’ll be comfortable working independently and taking ownership, while knowing when to raise issues or seek input.
The role requires high levels of integrity and discretion when handling sensitive financial and commercial information.
