Interim Financial Controller – Payroll Project
Milton Keynes | £650–£850 per day | Outside IR35 | 3 months
We are working with a PE-backed business services group that is looking to appoint an experienced Interim Financial Controller to lead a significant payroll review and assurance project.
This is a high-profile, hands-on assignment involving the detailed review and validation of a large volume of historical payroll data. The successful candidate will take ownership of the project, working through complex payroll information to identify discrepancies, assess their impact and ensure the underlying data and calculations are accurate.
Key Responsibilities
- Leading a detailed review of high-volume historical payroll data
- Validating payroll calculations and investigating potential discrepancies
- Performing detailed analysis and reconciliations across large datasets
- Identifying exceptions, trends, and areas requiring further investigation
- Assessing payroll processes, controls, and data integrity
- Maintaining a clear audit trail and documentation of findings
- Working closely with Finance, Payroll, and other relevant stakeholders
- Supporting audit queries and providing clear evidence and analysis
- Driving the project through to resolution within the required timeframe

Requirements
Significant hands-on payroll experience is essential. We are particularly interested in candidates who have undertaken complex payroll reviews, remediation, assurance, or audit projects within large organisations.

You will need to be highly analytical, comfortable interrogating substantial volumes of data, and able to work independently in a fast-paced environment. Strong Excel/data analysis skills and the ability to understand detailed payroll calculations are essential.
Experience of Ciphr would be advantageous but is not essential.
The successful candidate will be available immediately or at short notice and able to commit to an initial three-month assignment.
