Interim Group Financial Controller | Fast Growth Technology Business | Remote

The Client

Harmonic is delighted to be partnering with a remote-first technology business going through its first external audit as a group. The company has grown quickly, builds its own technology, and is now preparing to refinance, which makes closing this first audit cleanly and credibly a board-level priority. This is a high-stakes, high-visibility mandate working close to the top of the business.

The Role

Reporting to the interim Finance Director and working closely with the CEO, the Interim Group Financial Controller will take ownership of the group audit for the year ended August 2025 and drive it to a clean close. This is the first time the business has been audited, so a number of areas are open for the first time: the capitalisation of development costs, directors' loan accounts, capital allocation, historical records and a range of balance sheet reconciliations. You will be the senior technical lead who owns the relationship with the external auditors, works out what they actually need, resolves the outstanding adjustments, and stands behind the final numbers so the business can move to refinancing with confidence. This is a hands-on, senior mandate, fully remote, offered initially as a two-month contract with scope to extend into the following year's audit.

Key Responsibilities

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

  • Own the external audit relationship end to end, translating auditor requests into clear actions and closing out every open query and adjustment.
  • Take control of the technical positions under scrutiny: development cost capitalisation (IAS 38), directors' loan accounts, capital allocation and historical records.
  • Finalise and stand behind the group balance sheet and financial statements, giving leadership and prospective lenders confidence in the numbers.
  • Work through the list of rolling adjustments and lock down the FY2025 position.
  • Produce audit-ready workpapers, reconciliations and supporting documentation to a standard that removes uncertainty.
  • Act as the senior technical partner to the interim FD and CEO through a refinancing-critical close.
  • Where time allows, set the business up for a cleaner audit of the year ended August 2026.

Essential Experience

  • Qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA), trained at a leading practice (Big 4 or top-10 firm).
  • Operating at Group Financial Controller or Financial Controller level in industry, with the seniority and judgement to own an audit outright.
  • Deep technical grounding across development cost capitalisation, directors' loan accounts, group consolidations and complex balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Has worked on both sides of the audit: trained in practice, and then in industry as the person facing the external auditors.
  • Track record of closing group audits, ideally including first-time or contested audits, and finalising numbers that third parties rely on.
  • Available immediately and comfortable working fully remotely.
