Interim Financial Controller

Location: Bournemouth
Contract Type: Interim (6 months)
Reporting to: Head of Controllership / Finance Director

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Interim Financial Controller to join a fast-paced, international business. This role will sit within the Controllership function and play a key role in ensuring robust financial control, accurate reporting, and commercial oversight across a growing and evolving organisation.

This is a highly operational position requiring an individual who is comfortable rolling up their sleeves whilst also leading and developing a small finance team. The successful candidate will work closely with finance, commercial and operational stakeholders, supporting key business initiatives, contract reviews and project-based accounting activities.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Control & Reporting

  • Lead the month-end close process, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • Oversee balance sheet reconciliations and maintain strong financial controls.
  • Manage statutory compliance, audit requirements and accounting governance.
  • Ensure adherence to relevant accounting standards and internal policies.
  • Review and enhance financial processes, controls and reporting frameworks.

Team Leadership

  • Manage, mentor and develop direct reports within the controllership team.
  • Drive accountability and continuous improvement across the finance function.
  • Support workload planning and resource allocation within the team.

Commercial Contracts & Project Accounting

  • Review and evaluate customer, supplier and partner contracts, ensuring appropriate accounting treatment and risk management.
  • Provide financial support on commercial agreements, pricing structures and contract negotiations.
  • Lead accounting and reporting for key projects and business initiatives.
  • Support revenue recognition assessments and contract accounting activities where required.

Business Partnering

  • Collaborate closely with FP&A, Commercial Finance and Operational teams.
  • Provide insight into financial performance and key business drivers.
  • Support business transformation initiatives, process improvements and integration activities.
  • Deliver ad hoc financial analysis and support strategic decision making.

  • Maintain a strong control environment and identify areas of financial risk.
  • Support external audit processes and internal control reviews.
  • Ensure compliance with tax, regulatory and governance requirements.

Candidate Profile

The successful candidate will be a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with a proven track record operating in a Financial Controller capacity within a dynamic, fast-moving environment.

Essential Experience

  • Qualified accountant with significant post-qualified experience.
  • Previous experience as a Financial Controller or Senior Finance Manager.
  • Strong financial reporting, balance sheet and controllership expertise.
  • Experience managing and developing finance teams.

Highly Desirable Experience

  • Commercial contracts experience, including reviewing and accounting for customer and supplier agreements.
  • Project accounting experience, ideally within technology, SaaS or manufacturing environments.
  • Advanced Excel and ERP systems experience.

Personal Attributes

  • Hands-on and pragmatic approach.
  • Strong attention to detail coupled with commercial awareness.
  • Comfortable operating in a changing environment.
