I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Key Requirements:
- If you've built a bank model that's stood up to PRA scrutiny at ICAAP or ILAAP stage.
Role Description:
- Deposits, capital, liquidity, all of it needs to move well past the early-stage draft and hold up to real scrutiny ahead of the Regulatory Business Plan submission.
- This is a hands-on interim assignment where you will be responsible for pulling the existing model apart, stress-testing the assumptions on cost and capital, finding where it is exposed, and identifying a solution.

Skills and Experience Needed:
- Banking product and treasury knowledge beats lending experience here.
- If you understand capital requirements, regulatory constraints, and how a bank balance sheet actually behaves then this would be an exciting project to utilize your skill set on.
- A licence application on your CV helps but isn't essential. Running a full banking model end to end is.
