Interim Financial Reporting Consultant (Outside IR35)

Contract Details

  • Duration: Initial 3 months
  • Status: Outside IR35

Company Overview

An ambitious private equity-backed business with recent PE investment seeking an experienced Financial Reporting Consultant to provide interim support during a critical period covering year-end, audit preparation, technical accounting projects, and finance transformation initiatives.

Role Description

This is a hands-on role reporting directly to the Finance Director, focused on creating immediate capacity within the finance function while ensuring key financial reporting and compliance deliverables are successfully completed before year-end.

Key Responsibilities

Management Accounting & Finance Operations Support

  • Provide day-to-day support across the finance function.
  • Take ownership of banking activities and other finance processes currently managed by the Finance Director.
  • Assist with management accounting activities and month-end close processes.
  • Identify process improvement opportunities and implement practical efficiencies.

Year-End Reporting & Audit Preparation

  • Lead preparation activities for year-end close and external audit.
  • Support the consolidation of three trading entities within the group structure.
  • Prepare audit schedules, supporting documentation, reconciliations, and working papers.
  • Complete chart of accounts mapping and establish new nominal codes within Sage X3.
  • Ensure the business is audit-ready ahead of fieldwork commencing later in the year.

Technical Accounting (FRS 102)

  • Assess the impact of recently incorporated group entities on financial reporting requirements.
  • Provide technical accounting support across the group, with particular focus on:
    • Revenue recognition
    • Lease accounting
    • Group reporting considerations
    • Compliance with FRS 102
  • Prepare technical papers and recommendations where required.

Finance Systems & Transformation

  • Support ongoing finance transformation initiatives following completion of a process review.
  • Contribute to finance system implementation and optimisation projects.
  • Challenge existing processes and recommend improvements through systems, automation, AI, and enhanced reporting tools.
  • Work effectively within changing systems environments and quickly adopt new platforms.

Essential Experience

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
  • Strong financial reporting and year-end experience.
  • Experience supporting external audits and preparing statutory reporting packs.
  • Working knowledge of FRS 102.
  • Hands-on management accounting experience within a commercial environment.
  • Strong finance systems capability with the ability to rapidly learn new platforms.
  • Track record of identifying and implementing process improvements.
  • Experience supporting finance system implementations or transformation projects.
  • Ability to work independently and deliver with minimal supervision.

Desirable Experience

  • Previous audit training/background.
  • Experience within private equity-backed businesses.
  • Sage X3 experience.
  • Experience leveraging automation, AI, or technology solutions to improve finance processes.
