Cobalt is recruiting a Fund Accountant for a well-established real estate business with investment and development activity across the UK and Europe.

This is a temporary opportunity offering a varied remit across fund, financial and property accounting. Sitting within the London finance function, the successful candidate will gain exposure to a sizeable property portfolio while partnering with teams across the wider business.

The organisation

Our client is an established real estate investor and developer with a significant portfolio of commercial property assets and an active pipeline across multiple European markets.

The business offers the opportunity to work within a collaborative finance environment where the Fund Accountant will have visibility across investment activity, property operations and development.

The role and responsibilities

Reporting into a senior member of the UK finance team, the Fund Accountant will take ownership of financial reporting across a portfolio of investment structures and property entities.

The role will include:

  • Producing management reporting and financial information for a portfolio of entities.
  • Preparing statutory accounts and coordinating external audits.
  • Managing balance sheet and intercompany reconciliations.
  • Producing financial information required by lenders and supporting covenant reporting.
  • Overseeing relevant VAT and CIS accounting requirements.
  • Reviewing information received from external property managers and ensuring it is reflected accurately within the accounts.
  • Managing property accounting activity including journals, tenancy information, rent deposits and service charge reconciliations.
  • Working with colleagues across finance on payment processes and cash flow requirements.
  • Providing accounting support around property acquisitions, disposals and due diligence.

The breadth of the position should suit someone who enjoys combining technical financial reporting with the commercial side of real estate accounting.

The skills needed and requirements

The successful Fund Accountant will be a finalist or qualified accountant through ICAEW, ACCA, CIMA or an equivalent professional body.

You will also need:

  • A strong working knowledge of UK statutory accounts preparation.
  • A strong working knowledge of FRS 102.
  • Good Excel capability and confidence working with detailed financial information.
  • The ability to communicate clearly with internal teams and external professional advisers.
  • An organised approach to managing several reporting requirements and deadlines.

Exposure to real estate investment structures such as REITs, QAHCs or LP/GP arrangements would be beneficial but is not essential. Experience with Oracle NetSuite or another comparable accounting system would also be useful.
