The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced General Counsel to provide strategic legal leadership on a major future energy infrastructure and development programme, with a strong focus on EPC, EPCI and O&M contracting.
This is a senior, business-facing role where you will act as the lead legal adviser, partnering closely with project leadership, internal stakeholders and external advisers to support the successful delivery of a complex, high-value project.
About the Project
This opportunity sits within a large-scale infrastructure programme currently progressing through development, consenting and procurement phases.
As the project advances towards delivery, you will play a key role in supporting commercial objectives, managing legal risk and advising on EPC, construction and O&M agreements, alongside a broad range of contractual, regulatory and governance matters.
Your Role
You will provide commercially focused, pragmatic legal advice while maintaining oversight of the project's legal risk profile. Acting as a trusted adviser to senior stakeholders, you will identify legal issues early, develop practical solutions and coordinate specialist support where required to ensure effective and timely decision-making.
A key aspect of the role will be supporting the procurement, negotiation and management of major EPC, EPCI and O&M contracts, ensuring robust risk allocation and commercially sound outcomes throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide commercially focused legal advice on key project decisions.
- Embed legal considerations into business and technical decision-making.
- Oversee legal risk and escalate significant issues through governance channels.
- Act as the lead legal contact for the project.
- Coordinate advice from internal specialists to deliver clear, consistent guidance.
- Ensure compliance with legal policies, governance requirements and risk frameworks.
- Support legal knowledge sharing and best practice.
- Manage relationships with external law firms and specialist advisers.
- Instruct and coordinate external counsel as required.
- Define scopes of work, challenge advice where appropriate and ensure value for money.
- Advise on commercial contracts, procurement, NDAs, consultancy agreements and contract amendments.
- Provide guidance on contractual interpretation, IP and information-sharing matters.
- Support the negotiation and management of EPC, EPCI, construction and O&M agreements.
- Develop templates, precedents and guidance to improve consistency and efficiency.
- Monitor legal spend and optimise the use of internal and external resources.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
