Location: London hybrid

Assignment: Interim, immediate start through to January 2027 Commitment: Around 4 days per week for the first six weeks, tapering to 2–3 days per week Day rate: Up to £800, dependent on experience Reporting to: CEO

Role

FD Capital is appointing an Interim Group Financial Controller for an established international SaaS and financial technology business. The group is headquartered in the US, with operating subsidiaries in the UK and Asia-Pacific, around 80 employees, and Microsoft Dynamics as its ledger.

The previous Financial Controller has left, and the CEO needs a seasoned interim who can take ownership of the numbers straight away. The brief is to validate and remediate the financial records, rebuild a dependable month-end close, and give the leadership team forecasts it can make decisions on.

This is a genuine hands-on controllership assignment. It will suit an experienced interim Financial Controller or hands-on Finance Director who is comfortable working directly in the ledger and reconciliation files, not an advisory or oversight role. You will report to the CEO in London and work alongside a capable junior accountant, whose development forms part of your remit.

The assignment runs until January, taking the business through the Q4 close and into year-end. A permanent Financial Controller search is running in parallel, and your job is to hand that person a clean, controlled and fully documented finance function.

The assignment is milestone-driven. Early deliverables include a finance risk and remediation register, a reconciled cash position, a 13-week cash forecast and a prioritised workplan. By January, the business expects validated trial balances, corrected consolidated accounts, an integrated reforecast and next-year budget, two controlled month-end closes and a complete handover.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
