Starfish Search is supporting a London Borough to appoint an Interim Head of Audit
This is an excellent opportunity to lead the Council's Internal Audit, Risk, Anti-Fraud and Insurance functions, providing strategic assurance, strengthening governance and supporting effective financial management across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the Internal Audit, Risk, Anti-Fraud and Insurance functions
- Deliver the annual internal audit plan and provide independent assurance across the organisation
- Strengthen governance, internal controls and risk management frameworks
- Lead fraud prevention, investigations and financial governance activity
- Build strong relationships with senior leaders, Members and external auditors
- Present reports and recommendations to senior stakeholders and Audit Committees
- Drive continuous improvement across audit and governance services
- Lead and develop a high-performing audit and financial governance team

About You:
- Fully qualified accountant (ideally CIPFA) or professionally qualified through the Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors (CIIA)
- Significant experience leading internal audit within local government or the wider public sector
- Strong knowledge of governance, risk management, internal controls and audit standards
- Experience advising senior leaders, Members and Audit Committees
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
- A collaborative leader with a track record of driving improvement and delivering high-quality assurance
