Interim Head of Cyber Security
3 Month Contract 📍 Glasgow (Onsite 1-2 days per week)
Our client is seeking an experienced Head of Cyber Security to lead cyber security strategy, governance, risk management, and operational security across a major shared services environment supporting multiple organisations across Scotland.
Reporting to the CIO, you will provide strategic leadership for cyber security operations, oversee cyber risk and compliance, lead incident response activities, and drive cyber resilience improvements across a complex enterprise technology landscape.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and deliver the enterprise cyber security strategy and roadmap.
- Oversee security operations, threat detection, incident response, and vulnerability management.
- Manage cyber risk, governance, compliance, and regulatory assurance activities.
- Drive secure-by-design principles across enterprise and solution architecture.
- Provide expert cyber security guidance to executive leadership, Boards, and Audit & Risk Committees.
- Lead a specialist cyber security team and manage third-party security partners.
- Ensure alignment with recognised frameworks including ISO 27001, NIST, CAF, and Cyber Essentials Plus.

Essential Experience
- Proven experience leading cyber security function within large, complex organisations.
- Strong background in security operations, cyber resilience, governance, and risk management.
- Experience managing security teams and external security providers.
- Expertise across cloud security, endpoint protection, network security, and Microsoft security technologies.
- Experience presenting cyber risk and security strategy to senior executives and board-level stakeholders.
- Relevant certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CISA or equivalent.

Desirable Experience
- Public sector, government, or shared services experience.
- Knowledge of Scottish Government cyber resilience frameworks and governance requirements.
- Experience providing assurance to Boards, Audit & Risk Committees, or equivalent governance bodies.
Skills
- Strong leadership and stakeholder management capability.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills.
- Strategic mindset with the ability to balance operational delivery and long-term security objectives.
- Demonstrable experience leading large-scale security transformation and change programmes.
