Our client is a large and ambitious local authority with a clear determination to accelerate economic growth, attract investment and improve opportunities for residents. They are now seeking an exceptional Head of Economy & Employment to lead a high-profile portfolio at a pivotal moment in the borough's development. This role will be a 12 month FTC, salary c£100k.

Reporting directly to the Director, this influential leadership role will oversee economic development, inward investment, employment and skills, adult learning, business engagement and strategic partnerships. Managing programmes and funding streams worth approximately £10m, you will play a key role in shaping the area's future prosperity.

Key priorities include:

  • Driving an ambitious inward investment strategy and raising the borough's profile nationally and internationally
  • Leading a flagship employment and skills programme, creating innovative pathways into work for local residents
  • Transforming adult learning provision to meet the future needs of businesses and communities
  • Securing external funding, attracting investment and building impactful strategic partnerships
  • Supporting major growth opportunities linked to significant regional infrastructure and regeneration initiatives

About You

You are a strategic and commercially minded leader with a strong track record in economic development, regeneration, employment, skills or growth. You bring:

  • Senior leadership experience within local government, the public sector or a similarly complex organisation
  • Experience securing investment, funding and partnership opportunities
  • Strong knowledge of economic growth, inward investment and employment agendas
  • The ability to influence stakeholders at all levels and deliver meaningful outcomes
  • Proven experience leading complex programmes and managing substantial budgets
