Interim Head of Education
We are working with Midlands-based local authority to identify an exceptional Interim Head of Education to provide strategic leadership across the education portfolio.
This is a high-profile leadership opportunity for an individual who can quickly establish credibility with schools, partners and elected members while maintaining a strong focus on educational outcomes for children and young people.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership across education services.
- Drive school improvement and educational standards.
- Lead partnerships with schools, trusts, regional and national stakeholders.
- Ensure effective delivery of statutory education responsibilities.
- Support service transformation and continuous improvement.
- Provide leadership across inclusion, attendance and wider education priorities.
- Contribute to strategic planning and performance management across the directorate.

The areas of responsibility include:
- Education Welfare Service, including Children Missing Education (CME) and Child Employment and Licensing
- Education Re-engagement Team, including school exclusions, Section 19 duties and Alternative Provision
- Elective Home Education (EHE)
- Education Safeguarding
- Virtual School
Key details:
- Interim contract
- Hybrid working, with an onsite requirement of 2-3 days per week
- c. £650 per day inside IR35
- Start date: ASAP
About You
We are keen to speak with individuals who have:
- Significant senior leadership experience within local authority education services.
- Experience operating at Head of Education, Assistant Director Education, Director of Education, or equivalent level.
- A strong understanding of the education landscape, including maintained schools, academies and multi-academy trusts.
- Experience driving improvement programmes and delivering measurable outcomes.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and political awareness.
- The ability to lead teams confidently through periods of change.
