Your new company A well-established public sector and social housing business is seeking an experienced Interim Head of Financial Reporting to provide maternity cover, alongside additional support for handover. This is an excellent opportunity to join a values-led organisation that plays a vital role in supporting local communities, while leading a high-performing finance function through a key reporting cycle.
Your new role Reporting to the Finance Director, you will lead a team of four finance professionals and take ownership of all financial reporting, statutory accounts and technical accounting activities.
Key Responsibilities Will Include
- Leading the production of annual statutory accounts and ensuring compliance with all relevant accounting and regulatory requirements.
- Managing the organisation's financial reporting framework, controls and governance processes.
- Providing technical accounting expertise and guidance to the wider finance team.
- Overseeing financial reporting, balance sheet integrity, reconciliations and month-end processes.
- Supporting forecasting, budgeting and longer-term financial planning activities.
- Managing relationships with auditors and key external stakeholders.
- Driving continuous improvement across financial reporting processes, systems and controls.
- Leading, mentoring and developing a team of four finance professionals.

This is a hybrid role, with approximately one day per week required onsite in the Manchester Office. The appointment is initially to cover maternity leave, with additional cover required to support holidays and a smooth handover period.
What you'll need to succeed To be successful in this role, you will be a fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with significant experience operating within a financial reporting, technical accounting or statutory reporting environment.
You Will Also Demonstrate
- Strong technical accounting knowledge and experience preparing statutory accounts.
- Previous leadership experience managing and developing finance teams.
- Expertise in financial controls, governance and compliance.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
- The ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment and provide clear financial insight to senior leaders.
- Experience within social housing, housing associations or wider public sector organisations would be highly advantageous.
- Exposure to service charge accounting would be beneficial but not essential.
