This role is with a combined authority in the Northwest of England.

Job Description

I am recruiting an interim Head of Policy & Strategy (Deputy Director) for a combined authority in the Northwest of England. You will:

  • Provide leadership and management to the Policy Team.
  • Lead and coordinate policy and strategy development across the organisation.
  • Act as a senior adviser, offering authoritative policy guidance and direction.
  • Bring together policy experts and subject matter specialists to develop cohesive recommendations.
  • Work collaboratively across organisational boundaries to build consensus and alignment.
  • Engage effectively with a broad range of internal and external partners.
  • Support the organisation through a period of transition and organisational change.
  • Ensure policy development is delivered at pace and to a high standard.

The Successful Applicant

Essential Experience

  • Significant leadership experience within Central Government.
  • Operated at Senior Civil Service (SCS)/ Deputy Director level or equivalent.
  • Strong track record of leading policy and strategy functions in complex environments.
  • Experience working across multiple policy areas as a policy generalist.
  • Proven ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities.
  • Strong people leadership and line management capability.
  • Experience influencing senior stakeholders and landing policy across organisational and partner boundaries.
  • Ability to bring together diverse viewpoints and expertise to create coherent policy approaches.
