This role is with a combined authority in the Northwest of England.
Job Description
I am recruiting an interim Head of Policy & Strategy (Deputy Director) for a combined authority in the Northwest of England. You will:
- Provide leadership and management to the Policy Team.
- Lead and coordinate policy and strategy development across the organisation.
- Act as a senior adviser, offering authoritative policy guidance and direction.
- Bring together policy experts and subject matter specialists to develop cohesive recommendations.
- Work collaboratively across organisational boundaries to build consensus and alignment.
- Engage effectively with a broad range of internal and external partners.
- Support the organisation through a period of transition and organisational change.
- Ensure policy development is delivered at pace and to a high standard.

The Successful Applicant
Essential Experience
- Significant leadership experience within Central Government.
- Operated at Senior Civil Service (SCS)/ Deputy Director level or equivalent.
- Strong track record of leading policy and strategy functions in complex environments.
- Experience working across multiple policy areas as a policy generalist.
- Proven ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities.
- Strong people leadership and line management capability.
- Experience influencing senior stakeholders and landing policy across organisational and partner boundaries.
- Ability to bring together diverse viewpoints and expertise to create coherent policy approaches.
