Senior Financial Services Regulatory Lawyer (12-Month Contract)

London | Hybrid Working

12-Month Fixed-Term Contract | December 2026 Start

An exceptional opportunity for an experienced Financial Services Regulatory Lawyer to join the EMEA legal function of a leading global financial markets organisation on a 12-month maternity cover contract.

This is a highly visible role acting as the principal regulatory legal adviser for the region, partnering closely with senior stakeholders across legal, compliance, risk, and the business. The successful candidate will advise on a broad range of UK and EMEA financial services regulatory matters, regulatory change initiatives, strategic projects, and business growth opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Acting as the lead legal adviser on UK and EMEA financial services regulation.
  • Advising on regulatory developments and implementation projects.
  • Supporting strategic business initiatives, new products, and regulatory change programmes.
  • Partnering with compliance, risk, and senior executives on complex regulatory issues.
  • Managing interactions with external counsel where required.
  • Providing pragmatic, commercially focused advice in a fast-paced environment.

About You

  • England & Wales qualified solicitor.
  • Ideally 10+ years' PQE, although strong candidates outside this range will be considered.
  • Significant financial services regulatory experience gained in private practice and/or in-house.
  • Experience advising banks, brokers, exchanges, trading venues, market infrastructure providers, or other regulated financial institutions.
  • Commercially minded, pragmatic, and solutions-focused.
  • Comfortable operating independently and influencing senior stakeholders.
