Interim Head of Regulatory Legal, EMEA
12-month contract
Day rate: £800 - £1300
A global financial markets infrastructure and data business is looking to hire a senior regulatory lawyer to lead its EMEA Regulatory Legal function and will report into the General Counsel.
In this role, you will act as the principal adviser on financial services regulation across a complex, multi-jurisdictional business operating across wholesale markets, trading platforms, market infrastructure, energy, and commodities.
You will partner with senior executives, legal, and compliance teams to provide strategic advice on regulatory developments, business transformation initiatives, new products, market structure matters, and cross-border activities. The role also involves leading regulatory engagement, supporting significant change programmes, and managing a small team of regulatory lawyers.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead the EMEA Regulatory Legal function and manage a team of regulatory lawyers.
- Advise senior stakeholders on complex UK and European financial services regulation.
- Support regulatory change projects, business transformation initiatives, and new product launches.
- Provide guidance on licensing, permissions, and cross-border activities.
- Advise on the regulatory implications of trading, broking, market infrastructure, and data-related businesses.
- Support regulatory investigations, enquiries, and engagement with regulators and industry bodies.
- Partner closely with Legal, Compliance, and business leadership to balance commercial objectives and regulatory risk.
- Coordinate with legal teams across multiple jurisdictions to ensure a consistent global approach.

Candidate Profile
- England & Wales qualified solicitor (or equivalent).
- Ideally 10+ years' PQE gained within a leading law firm and/or financial institution.
- Deep knowledge of UK and EU financial services regulation, including MiFID, digital assets, wholesale markets, and market infrastructure regulation.
- Experience advising on regulatory change, new products, business transformation, and multi-jurisdictional matters.
- Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence senior leadership.
- Previous people management experience preferred.
