Interim Head of Service Operations

We are partnering with a leading national Scottish charity to recruit an experienced Interim Head of Service Operations to provide leadership across a diverse portfolio of community-based health and wellbeing services during an important period of transformation and development.

This is a high-impact senior leadership opportunity for an ambitious and experienced service leader who can bring strategic oversight, operational excellence and strong people leadership to a well-established organisation delivering vital support across communities throughout Scotland.

Reporting to the Director of Service Delivery and operating as a key member of the senior leadership team, you will oversee a significant portfolio of services and programmes, ensuring high-quality delivery, continuous improvement and measurable impact for the people and communities who rely on them.

This role combines strategic leadership with operational responsibility. You will lead multidisciplinary teams, drive service performance, oversee service improvement initiatives and build strong partnerships across the health, social care, public and third sectors. You will also play a key role in shaping future service provision, supporting organisational priorities and ensuring services remain responsive, effective and sustainable.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing strategic and operational leadership across a national service portfolio.
  • Leading and motivating geographically dispersed teams.
  • Driving service improvement, innovation and transformation initiatives.
  • Developing effective partnerships with NHS, local authority, third sector and community stakeholders.
  • Ensuring services meet performance, quality and impact objectives.
  • Managing budgets, governance and risk.
  • Contributing to organisational strategy as part of the senior leadership team.
  • Championing a culture of collaboration, accountability and continuous improvement.

We are particularly interested in hearing from candidates with experience leading services within the third sector, health, social care or community services environments.

You will bring:

  • Significant senior leadership experience within complex service-led organisations.
  • A proven track record of leading large-scale operational services and delivering excellent outcomes.
  • Experience of organisational change, transformation and service improvement.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and experience working across multiple sectors.
  • Financial, governance and performance management expertise.
  • Exceptional leadership and people management capabilities.
  • The ability to quickly establish credibility, influence and momentum within an interim appointment.
