Interim Head of Strategic Campaign Operations

We are seeking a Interim Head of Strategic Campaign Operations on a 3 month initial contract to support with some key projects and changes in the External Communications Team.

Your role will be to help modernise its External Engagement function and deliver high-impact strategic communications.

About the Role

This senior role will review and improve current ways of working, develop and implement new strategies and systems, and lead delivery against the strategic communications workplan. A key focus will be strengthening the award-winning podcast publishing operation, embedding best practice and developing the skills of colleagues across the engagement community.

You will also lead the planning and delivery of major campaigns, ensuring activity is coordinated across stakeholders and delivered on time, to budget and to a high standard.

As a member of the leadership team, you will advise and support senior executives, providing strategic and operational leadership in a complex and changing environment. You’ll bring sound judgement, strong stakeholder management and a proactive approach to turning strategy into effective delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and improve current ways of working
  • Develop and implement new strategies and systems
  • Lead delivery against the strategic communications workplan
  • Strengthen the award-winning podcast publishing operation
  • Embed best practice and develop the skills of colleagues
  • Lead the planning and delivery of major campaigns
  • Advise and support senior executives
  • Provide strategic and operational leadership

Required Skills and Experience

  • Demonstrable experience of planning and delivering communications, PR, brand, or marketing campaigns
  • Past experience as a Head of Communications, Communications Lead, Marketing Manager, etc.
  • Creating clear, compelling, engaging content with impact in a multi-channel environment
  • Up-to-date knowledge of how to use a wide range of communications channels to engage a target audience
  • Able to convey complex information clearly, concisely, and compellingly to a wide range of target audiences
  • Strong organisational, time management, and project management
  • Hands-on skills including proficiency in tools such as InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Canva, etc.
  • Experience in the Higher Education Sector or other public sector body would be highly advantageous but not essential.

Other Details

  • 3 Month contract
  • £47.66 paid via an umbrella company (annual equivalent is £66,437 per annum)
  • 1 day per week in the office (Tuesday) and 4 days from home
