Interim Health and Safety Consultant

Location: Iver
Day rate: £500 to £725 per day
Contract: Initial six-month interim assignment
IR35: Available on either an inside or outside IR35 basis
Start date: ASAP
Travel: UK and occasional European travel

We are recruiting an experienced Interim Health and Safety Consultant to support an established international manufacturing business while it completes the recruitment of a permanent Head of Health and Safety.

The role

The role will be based near Iver and will provide senior-level health and safety leadership across a complex manufacturing and warehousing operation. The successful consultant will be expected to take ownership of the function during the interim period, maintain momentum and provide stability until the permanent appointment is made.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Taking day-to-day ownership of the health and safety function.
  • Providing senior-level advice and leadership across the business.
  • Conducting a gap analysis of current health and safety arrangements.
  • Reviewing policies, procedures, and management systems.
  • Supporting continued legal compliance.
  • Identifying gaps in training, competence, and occupational health provision.
  • Helping shape and progress the health and safety strategy.
  • Strengthening ownership and accountability across operational teams.
  • Coaching and supporting the existing health and safety resource.
  • Supporting consistent standards across UK and European locations.
  • Providing clear updates and assurance to senior leadership.

The person

We are looking for a credible and experienced health and safety professional who can step into a senior interim position and confidently look after the function while the permanent Head of Health and Safety is recruited.

You will ideally have:

  • Experience within manufacturing, engineering, or another high-risk environment.
  • Strong knowledge of UK health and safety legislation.
  • Experience operating at senior management or Head of function level.
  • The ability to influence C-suite and board-level stakeholders.
  • Experience working across multiple sites.
  • The confidence to work independently and take ownership.
  • A practical and commercially aware approach.
  • Experience reviewing and improving health and safety management systems.
  • Environmental knowledge would be beneficial but is not essential.
