Interim Legal Counsel – 15-Month Fixed-Term Contract
Location: London
A leading international financial institution is seeking an Interim Legal Counsel to join its London Legal team on a 15-month fixed-term contract.
The role will provide legal and legal risk support across a range of banking activities, with a particular focus on private banking, lending and secured finance transactions. You will work closely with senior members of the Legal team and advise stakeholders across the business, including Front Office, Credit, Compliance and Operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft, review and negotiate facility and security documentation for private banking transactions, including real estate finance, Lombard lending, guarantees and related ancillary documents.
- Review transaction approvals, credit conditions and legal documentation to ensure they accurately reflect agreed terms and appropriately protect the organisation’s legal position.
- Advise internal stakeholders on a broad range of legal, regulatory and operational matters.
- Support business areas including Private Banking, Wealth Management, Treasury, Credit, Operations, Compliance and HR.
- Monitor relevant legal and regulatory developments and assist with updating internal policies and procedures.
- Liaise with and manage external legal counsel, including obtaining fee quotes and reviewing work produced.
- Identify and escalate legal, regulatory and reputational risks, and support ongoing improvements to legal processes and controls.

Skills & Experience

- Qualified solicitor with at least 3 years’ PQE.
- Experience in banking and finance, ideally including private banking, real estate finance or secured lending.
- Strong knowledge of facility agreements, security documentation, guarantees and conditions precedent.
- Strong drafting, negotiation and stakeholder-management skills.
- Commercial, pragmatic and solutions-focused approach.
- Able to work independently, manage competing priorities and operate effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
