Interim Manager - Step In. Make a Difference
Some management roles are about keeping things ticking over. This isn’t one of them.
At Fulcrum Care, we are building a network of experienced Interim Managers who can walk into a care service, understand what is really happening, bring people with them and start making a difference quickly.
Sometimes you might be covering a management gap. Sometimes a service needs stabilising. Sometimes the regulator is watching closely. And sometimes a good service simply needs an experienced pair of hands to help it through a period of change.
First things first – What is Fulcrum Care?
We work across the UK health and social care sector with providers, investors, lenders and other stakeholders.
Our teams are brought in when organisations need experienced people who can help with everything from operational leadership and regulatory improvement to turnaround, quality assurance and strategic support.
We are not looking for someone who wants to stand at the side with a clipboard. We are looking for people who are comfortable getting involved.
You could be joining a service where:
- The Registered Manager has left unexpectedly
- The team needs stronger leadership and direction
- Quality or compliance concerns need addressing quickly
- An inspection is approaching
- Staffing, agency use or culture has become difficult
- Governance exists on paper but isn't quite working in practice
- Senior leaders need someone experienced on the ground who can tell them what is really happening
- A service is going through significant operational change
- Things simply need steadying before a permanent leader takes over
Our assignments can cover residential and nursing care, dementia, learning disabilities, autism, supported living, mental health, complex care and domiciliary services.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

You will:
- Quickly assess performance, risks and operational priorities

- Bring structure where things may have become unclear

- Keep the service safe and stable while improvements are being made
2) Making quality real
You may need to:
- Strengthen governance and quality assurance
- Address gaps in safeguarding, care planning, medication, incidents and risk management
- Make sure actions from audits and inspections are actually completed and evidenced
- Prepare services for regulatory inspection
- Support improvement following regulatory concerns
- Turn improvement plans into measurable action rather than another document sitting in a folder
3) Bringing the team with you

- Improving supervision and performance management
- Strengthening communication across the service

- Agency usage
- Occupancy
- Budgets
- Operational KPIs
- Quality indicators
- Service performance
5) Being the person people can rely on

- Strong safeguarding and risk management knowledge
- Experience leading and developing care teams
- The ability to identify priorities quickly and turn them into practical action
- Confidence working independently and making decisions
- The credibility to work with frontline teams and senior executives alike
- Confidence engaging with commissioners, regulators and external stakeholders

Even better if you have...
We are particularly interested in hearing from people who have experience of:
- Turnaround and service recovery
- Regulatory improvement
- Supporting Inadequate or Requires Improvement services
- CQC, CIW, Care Inspectorate or other relevant regulatory bodies
- Managing occupancy, budgets, workforce costs and agency reduction
- Working across multiple care specialisms
