About the job
We are seeking a commercially minded Mid-Level Legal Counsel to join a leading international organisation on an interim basis. You will provide legal support across the organisation’s UK Packaging, Paper and Recycling divisions, working closely with senior stakeholders and commercial teams.
The role is ideal for a 1–7 PQE commercial lawyer with genuine in-house experience who enjoys being close to the business, building strong stakeholder relationships and taking ownership of matters from start to finish.

- Location: London/Hybrid (3 days in office, 2 days wfh)
- Rate: £Daily Rate DOE
Key Responsibilities
- Providing commercially focused legal advice across the UK business.
- Drafting, reviewing and negotiating customer, supplier and commercial contracts.
- Working directly with senior stakeholders and commercial teams to provide practical legal solutions.
- Advising on third-party disputes and litigation, including instructing and managing external counsel where required.
- Supporting wider corporate and commercial matters and strategic business initiatives.
- Identifying and managing legal and commercial risk while balancing the needs of the business.
- Delivering face-to-face legal training to management and commercial teams on areas including contract law, competition, bribery and corruption and legal policies.
- Reviewing and drafting legal policies and templates in response to legal and business change.
- Using available AI and technology to support efficient contract review and legal delivery.
- Working collaboratively within a lean, fast-paced legal and business environment.
- Travelling to UK business sites where required.

- Qualified solicitor with 1–7 PQE and solid commercial legal experience.
- Previous in-house experience.
- Strong experience drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial contracts, ideally across both customer and supplier arrangements.
- Experience advising on disputes and litigation and managing external counsel.
- Good commercial judgement, with the ability to balance legal risk against wider business objectives.
- Confident advising senior stakeholders and commercial teams directly.
- Strong relationship-builder who is proactive, pragmatic and comfortable engaging with the business.
- Experience delivering legal training to non-lawyers, with exposure to contract law, competition and bribery/corruption.
- Able to work independently, take ownership and operate effectively in a lean, fast-paced environment.
